The new email service launched in April 2015 features connectivity benefits for SOBA:UK members. The aim of this service is to provide you with an @sobaintheuk.org specific email address which you can synchronise with your mobile and / or also receive copies of emails to your current email account.

This was in response to demands for reliable email services for members. The final solution allows you to access an inbox focused soltely on Soban correspondence without the clutter of your other personal email  or enduring the pain of spam blockers used by the big email providers especially Yahoo, Google and Hotmail. The new email service has seen a good uptake amongst Sobans and the feedback has been 100% positive. SOBA:UK’s publicity team lead Koffi Mensah: “this piece of technology would greatly facilitates advancement of the group’s project outcomes and keeps a fresh sense of achievement within the group all around”.

Your @sobaintheuk.org email also features easy integration with Outlook, online calendars and email filtering.

Sharing common goals with SOBA America

May 23rd to 25th. This was the first time that the president of SOBA:UK has officially attended a SOBA America Convention. The theme of the convention was to mark the 75th anniversary celebrations of St Joseph’s College, Sasse that was founded in 1939. The convention was organised in great style in Minneapolis, Minnesota and Sobans and their guest attended from the various States in the US, from Canada and from the UK.
The SOBA UK president was invited to address the address the General Assembly, where his presence was hugely appreciated and recognised. He spoke of the need for SOBA America and SOBA:UK to work closely in a new Trans-Atlantic relationship. He also spoke about the need for SOBA to step up its organisation and structures in order to become the leading association, so that members of our community can come to us first with any issues they have and can use SOBA as a platform to greater success. The issues of the 75th anniversary came up in his speech where he said Sobans in the diaspora needed to make their contributions to support the high priority projects such as the Sickbay, School gate and the main road from the gate to the college.
Accompanying the president to the convention was Senior Soban Richard Dohnji. The feedback has been good and the two men had a great time also socialising and engaging with their classmates and friends.
Both Sobans from SOBA:UK were well received and some of the following messages were shared later

For the first time in our history, a seating president from SOBA:UK was present, participated with valor and candor during the deliberations and even left a gift for SOBA America.  How nice of you Ayuk. You are a true leader and we wish you well as your draw your visionary prototype to carry SOBA:UK to a place they have never been. We also saw a mystical move to get the convention hosted for the first time outside the continental boundaries of the USA.

Namaya Godwin
Richard & Ayuk, your very presence in Minnesota was the highlight of everything. You guys were the VIP of VIPs. That was a big sacrifice you made to fly across from Europe and I hope your expectations were met.Hopefully, we can replicate the success of MN in Montreal Canada next year and that will be a different challenge. The 79ers were well represented, and you could see our vibrance in all the events from Friday through Sunday.

Kenneth Ndelly
All Sobans of the Minnesota chapter and those who came from far out as the UK to the deep south of Texas, I sincerely thank you and I am sure you are telling the stories of this convention as I write this email. Please keep singing the song till the next one comes around.

Beltus Ntopi, President, Soba America
Ayuk, It was a pleasure seeing you and spending time with you again (twice within 3 months after not seeing each other for more than 20 years). I would have loved to spend more time with you guys but as you have already alluded my involvement in the grand scheme of things was very important for the success of this year’s convention. Again thank you for paying a visit and for the great memories. Stay blessed!

Celestine Fonge
Great write up though and kudos to the organizers of the wonderful convention. It was really a blast! So glad to see Lacteal and Whippi again. Are we planning to meet in the UK on October?

Kevin Nana, Vice President, Soba America
